Melissa and Doug Dollhouses

You can find plenty of great wood dollhouses inside Melissa and Doug's lineup. Everything from the large Victorian styles such as you see in crafts stores all the way down to small packages for preschoolers. The following is a small sample; just three of my favorites.

Their large (in excess of 2 feet by 2 feet) "Classic Heirloom Victorian Dollhouse" (shown here) is a lot like those you notice in craft shops. Although I would not actually call it heirloom quality, it is definitely big with plenty of nice finishing and detailing. Although it requires a number of hours of construction, putting your unit together does not involve the wood finishing and hand painting many manufacturers call for. Just like most other fancy dollhouses intended for older children, furniture and figures are purchased separately. But this one is the common 1:12 scale (1 inch equalls 1 foot), and so add-ons coming from a number of companies, in addition to Doug and Melissa will fit perfectly.

The "Delux Wooden Dollhouse"is a terrific first dollhouse intended for younger children. It's straightforward for you to assemble plus includes every thing required for play -- 18 furniture pieces along with 4 figures. This dollhouse is nearly two ft square, and also has a detachable balcony. The simple design lets it be a home, a barn, a castle, or perhaps a secret agent chateau, or....

The Doorbell House is particularly clever, just as much a toy or puzzle as anything else. It is a small box (very approximately an eight inch cube. Each and every side features an openable door plus a little indoor space. Each entrance has it's unique matching key. Only the proper key will open the door. Further, each entrance possesses a doorbell with it's own distinct sound. Finally, there's four figures. Yep, 1 for each door.
